Overview

Offline-first, by design

Wordwren is built to work entirely offline. Dictionary lookups, your saved word list, your training progress, and your lookup history are all stored locally on your device. There is no account, no sign-up, and no login of any kind — the developer has no server that stores your personal data, because there is no such server. Wordwren does not know who you are, and has no way to identify you from your use of the app.

On your device

What stays on your device

The following data is created and stored only on your device, never transmitted to the developer:

• Your saved words and any custom words or notes you add
• Your flashcard and spelling trainer progress (Leitner box, due dates, mastered status)
• Your dictionary lookup history
• App settings, such as your chosen theme, UI language, and text-to-speech voice

This data leaves your device only if you choose to export it — Wordwren can write your list to a JSON file through the standard iOS share sheet, entirely under your control and sent wherever you choose to send it (or nowhere at all).

Advertising

Optional ads via Google AdMob

The free version of Wordwren shows banner ads served by Google AdMob on the dictionary and list screens — never during a flashcard or spelling session. To serve and measure ads, AdMob and its advertising partners may collect device identifiers (such as the IDFA, when permitted), IP-based approximate location, and ad interaction data (impressions, clicks). This data is collected and processed by Google, not by the Wordwren developer.

On iOS, you'll see an App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt before any tracking-related identifier is used. If you decline, Wordwren keeps its full functionality — you simply see non-personalized or more limited ads instead of personalized ones. Purchasing the one-time ad-removal unlock stops ad requests entirely.

Purchases

In-app purchases via Apple StoreKit

The one-time ad-removal purchase is processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. Your payment details (card numbers, billing information) are handled by Apple and are never seen, received, or stored by the Wordwren developer. Deletion

Deleting your data

Because everything is stored on your device, deleting your data is the same as deleting the app: uninstalling Wordwren removes your saved words, progress, history, and settings along with it. If you'd like to keep a copy first, use Settings to export your list to a JSON file before you uninstall.

Your rights

GDPR and other data protection rights

If you're in the European Economic Area, the UK, or another jurisdiction with similar data protection laws, you have rights including access, correction, deletion, restriction, and portability of your personal data. In practice, the developer holds none of your personal data to begin with — it never leaves your device — so most requests are already satisfied by simply using the app or exporting/deleting as described above. For anything processed by Google as part of the optional ads (see above), those rights are exercised directly with Google through the links in the Advertising section. Children

Children's privacy

Wordwren is not directed at children under 13, and the developer does not knowingly collect personal data from children. Because the app collects no personal data itself, there is no account-level information to gather from any user, of any age.

Changes

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time, for example to reflect a new feature or a change in a third-party SDK's data practices. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.
